What I liked about Gentlemen wasn't so much WHAT was written as HOW it was written. I'm a fan of sharp-edged fiction, and from my first peek at the cover, I knew this was going to get my attention. Having worked with troubled teenaged boys, I found the POV character to be fatally flawed and therefore so very real. Right down to his insecurities about girls, his unspoken love for the single mom who saved him from a life of abuse, and his loyalty to a bunch of friends he doesn't even know why he's likes, there was no way to not want to identify with him and root for him, and want more for him, even though you knew he was going somewhere dark and forbidden that might destroy his chances in life. Northrop delivered a very cathartic story about the bad boys. Going on my keeper shelf.
