I am only 60 pages or so into the book and so far I am really enjoying it. So far it doesn't have a trilogy feel other than a few links. One of my favorite characters is Chief Joe. When asked if he wanted to jog with Will he answered that "my truck's running fine, so I don't see the point".

I think I know some of these characters. Does knowing some First Nations people make it easier to relate to the book? Can someone from a warm climate even envision someone taking their snowmobile to go visit someone in the hospital, or go to the local dance?

From Ally's first question did Scrooge really change, we have to believe so otherwise what is the point of the book. And the other question about character development was interesting. Other than Scrooge character development is somewhat limited. But then the books is just an expanded short story. Not much room for development but Dickens does a good job in such limited space.

I had forgotten how secular the book is. Other than a mention that Scrooge "went to church" and Tiny Tim's "God bless Us, Every One", there is no real mention of the religious aspect of Christmas.

One of the best things about my Bantam Classic edition of the book is an addendum covering Dickens' first public reading of the book. The reporter remarks on how Dickens' voice and actions brought out each character.

One of this month's required reading.

I always enjoy this book even though I am not a big Dickens fan. I probably relate it to the various movie versions. It is interesting how the tone of the reading changes once Scrooge is reformed.
