I found the conversation in the beginning of the book to be very stilted and obviously setting up the history of the region. I kept wondering why she was with a man that she found so boring and with whom she couldn't even hold a conversation without falling asleep. Once she went back in time, the book really picked up. I loved her historical accuracy and portrayal of 1740s Scotland. I loved Jamie's character and the beginning of their friendship. I thought the romance in the beginning of their marriage started out well but got a little repetitive. Like other reviewers I was not a fan of the spanking scene but it did illustrate how different the roles of men and women were compared to modern times. I also found the scene toward the end where she healed him to be a little unbelievable. However, I did greatly enjoy this book. It is not without some flaws but I did get caught up in the history of the time as well as the romance of the two characters and their story. I am looking forward to starting the next book in the series. (less) "
