This reminded me a lot of my college-age days - take from that what you will. The drugs, the sex, more drugs and yet more sex. By the end it was almost monotonous, but that was kinda the point. At some point you have to let that teen rebelliousness go and just move on to something else. Told with a manic pace for a manic time in their lives as well as the time it was set.

I watched the movie many years ago when it came out, twice even. And I thought it was jumbled and nonsensical. After reading the book I realized just how much they bastardized the movie - no surprise at all it didn't make any sense. The sex was relegated to just a few who were supposed t be inordinately slutty. And they left out the gay/bi sex completely. I remember seeing that horrid movie version with Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick and Bette Midler - need I say more? I think I remember an earlier movie version as well. For a rather short and concise book, it was absolutely terrifying. I can imagine it was a lot more Sci-fi-ish in the 70's when it was written. With the technology as advanced as it is now, I think it's even scarier that this could totally happen. When I read this the first time - the week it came out - I was disappointed. Not sure if why though - maybe the ending? On the second reading, I like it better.

A lot of people perished in this book, several important things to series happened as well. This seemed like a turning point of the series and for Sookie. Maybe because the ending was rather downbeat. It also seems as the Bill part of the triangle may be heating up again. Doesn't make me happy but, the series isn't over yet. ;)

Lots of little things happen in this one that tie up a whole bunch of loose ends from the other books. It doesn't follow her normal formula of main plot mystery overlapping a different subplot mystery. Which for a change is nice; it bounces around to several ongoing storylines touching on nearly all the main characters from the whole series.

Another very good Eric book as - he finally remembers! And the way he deals with the memories and with Sookie is just great fun. Many great moments between the two. Probably my second favorite Eric quote - in the car after she meets Niall.
