I was a little disappointed with this. I'm not quite sure why, but suspect I'm a biased audience. It reads the way a movie would, if the movie was just two hours of previews, with a short film now and then, with no actual feature. Many of the strips included are old (granted the pub date is 2004) and seem to be ... I want to say incomplete, but a better word might be inconsistent. Some of the featured artists provided complete stories (even as excerpts of larger works) while others only gave up a page or two. Out of 250+ pages, only one creator came off as new and compelling to me; enough that I wanted to look up more of their work. The rest I'd either seen before or just didn't like. Of the text articles, I enjoyed two of them, particularly the last one by Chip Kidd. Your taste of this book might be best described in terms of how you set your expectations. If you're looking for new insights or in-depth analysis of the 50 theories the book covers, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a concise summary of the 50 theories from both supporters' and dectractors' points of view, then I'd say browse the topic list and decide if it's worth adding to your shelves. There's little here that you can't get from wikipedia, but the brevity of the entries makes it a handy reference. ]]>
