Yes I am just not nearly as feisty I think But yes village wisdom was what I figured I would connect with in the Wheel of Time universe. :)

This book was an enjoyable read. Starting out as a wartime coming of youth tale. A young boy dealing with grief, which transforms into a tale of adventure. The adventure itself uses metaphor to help david come to terms with the turmoil of his life. I found the book humourous, and thought provoking. And thuroughly enjoyable. As I was reading I wanted to compare to the original fairytales and to my delight at the back of the edition I had there was a section that actually had excerpts and explanations relating to the fairytales that are parody'd and/or alluded to in the story.
Crossroads of Twilight carries on the story, at the same point that "Winter's Heart" leaves off. I admit that with my concentration as it is I switched to audioformat for this book after I realised I just wasn't going to find the energy to finish it.

It is not that it is a bad book, its just that it is repetative in some ways.

I think that I would have found it exceedingly frustrating if I hadn't been able to move onto the next book immediately. Rather than picking one particular story and jumping with it the book serves to line up the ensemble cast. Repeating timelines, the "sense" of the great use of Saidin and Saidar sensed in virtually all camps mentioned helps line things up timeline wise.

While the lack of 'progression' in the actual book would be frustrating if the next one weren't available I can actually see what Jordan intended to do. Perhaps not all of it was necessary, I believe that readers who have stuck with a series that long don't necessarily need as much spelled out for him as he gave. However I can see from an artists perspective the need to show the vision as they see it, as much as possible. (As much as the editors will let you anyhow).

I hope it doesn't seem like I didn't like the book, I liked it. I just wasn't quite as in love or enthralled with it the way I was with previous volumes. All in all, I wouldn't have finished it if it was a stand alone novel but when put in perspective of the series and as a preparatory measure for the next book I'm hoping that that makes the hours reading/listening to it worth it.
