You know that feeling you get at Thanksgiving, the one where you think at any moment your mother will slip you the adoption papers and confirm your fears? Yeah, well you're not alone.
Augusten has probably felt that way his entire life. After you read the book, how can you blame him? He spins this beautifully tragic tale of an odd childhood, that makes you laugh, cringe, cry and feel just a tab bit normal. Through it all you don't feel like he's a victim, at no point does he want you to feel sorry for him. Which is quite refreshing because memoirs usually leave you mentally exhausted and ready to save a child from one of those commercials.
No bull shit, it's a fantastic book. It literally changed my life, you realize you're not alone.
