Now that Tavi is a full- fledged Cursor, the First Lord sends Tavi to a new legion under an assumed name. There, with the whole command structure taken out of the picture, he ably, even miraculously, commands a misfit and new a few thousand troops against 90,000 wolf- like men named Canim.

Meanwhile, his aunt is saving the life of the man Fade/ Araris Valerian who has always been there for them. Also, his uncle Bernard and his aunt Amara go to Kalara to rescue people kidnapped by Kalara, who is also responsible for Alera being overthrown by Canim.

“Tavi felt like screaming. Or running and hiding. Or sleeping. Or possibly a combination of the first several, followed by the last. He was not a trained leader of legionnaires. He had never asked to be in a position of command such as this, never sought to be. That it had happened to him was a simple and enormous fact that was so stunning that he still had not come to grips with its implications. He was accustomed to taking chances – but here, he would take them with lives other than his own. Young men would die—already had died – based upon his decisions.”

“Battles are fought in muddy fields, in burning towns, in treacherous forests, in unforgiving mountains, and on the blood- spattered stones of contested bridges, Tavi realized. But battles are won within the minds and hearts of the soldiers fighting them. No force was defeated in battle until it believed it could be victorious.
The First Aleran believed.”(less)

This book is incredible and it was hard to put it down sometimes. I love the authors' writing and I can really get into the stories.

In Day of the Dragon, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the five dragon Aspects. I really got into the story about the struggles Krasus/Korialstrasz and Rhonin faced in freeing Alexstrasza from Nekros. I thought Deathwing was fascinating and I didn't get the impression at all that he was a bad guy. He seemed more like a brother that had gone astray. I could really connect with Alexstrasza on a personal level when she described the mother's pain she had to endure throughout her captivity every time she saw her children suffering or dying. This novel felt like it wasn't done, though, and I'm hoping Night of the Dragon is the sequel to it.

As I update this review, it's been quite some time and a few books since I've read this, but I remember clearly enjoying every single one of them in this archive, and I'm sure I'll be rereading it again in the future.

I couldn't get through the final Harry Potter book. Her writing style didn't change at all, so I don't know what it is. The other books were so captivating and fun to read, and this one isn't.

I've read this book once before. I enjoyed it the first time, and I am enjoying it just as much the second time. I had the pleasure of meeting the author at a book signing. She was very nice, friendly. She told me a little bit about how she got into writing. I bought her book because the subject was interesting to me (i.e. a person turning into a wolf being the main character). I was not at all disappointed and was drawn into the story of Sylla (known as Pandora throughout most of the novel).

Very clear, strong writing style. This author doesn't disappoint the reader. Even when you read the description of her books and figure it isn't a topic you'd be interested in, you find yourself drawn into the story and the characters anyway. Highly recommended and looking forward to her new book, Handle With Care.
