Meanwhile, his aunt is saving the life of the man Fade/ Araris Valerian who has always been there for them. Also, his uncle Bernard and his aunt Amara go to Kalara to rescue people kidnapped by Kalara, who is also responsible for Alera being overthrown by Canim.

He had never asked to be in a position of command such as this, never sought to be. That it had happened to him was a simple and enormous fact that was so stunning that he still had not come to grips with its implications.
