The strong reaction comes from my aversion for people who present their belief system as scientific fact, which is unfortunately becoming an increasingly common occurrence in this country. I have no problem with different ideas and understandings. I just have a problem with people who are obviously ignorant on a subject presenting their ideas and understandings as being from an "expert."

As for you questioning the language I chose to express my opinion of this book and its author, book reviews by their very nature are intended to be editorial. Editorials reflect a person's feelings (and, yes, even their judgments). "Reliability" is not a word you should ascribe to any review, much less a book review.

I hope this satisfies your curiosity, as well as educates you on the purpose of book reviews.

I enjoyed this collection of short-stories. They are a somewhat depressing, but realistic take on the flawed nature of the human psyche. I particularly enjoyed the stories in which O'Connor illustrated how the misguided use of religious teachings or social etiquette can cause some of the greatest harm to our fellow human beings. ]]>
