This book provides a heartwarming story that is entirely predictable but completely genre-appropriate. Seriously, if you pick up a book called The Christmas List and expect it to be anything less than heartfelt, inspirational and tear-inspiring, you picked up the wrong book. Essentially, this is a Scrooge tale. James Kier, a tough real estate entrepreneur who has lost his way, is mistaken for dead and an obituary is published. The obituary is less than kind and the follow-up commentary even worse. This causes Jim to rethink his life, his legacy and his ambitions and he sets out to make some changes in his own life and in the lives of people that he has hurt. My only problem is that the book is so short, I finished it in about 90 minutes. I would have liked a little more development of James Kier and his efforts to reform his life and legacy.

I have read and enjoyed the GhostWalkers series by Christine Feehan and thought this series looked interesting too. I enjoyed this book (the first in the Carpathians series) but thought it was perhaps a little bit over the top, even for paranormal romance. But it had all of the elements you look for in a traditional romance novel so if you are looking for a good beach or vacation read, this is a solid bet.

This was a really good piece of historical fiction about the "War of the Roses" between the Houses of York and Lancaster in England in the mid-1400s. It covers the reign of Edward III and his wife, Elizabeth Woodville. Their two sons are the "lost princes from the Tower" and this book speculates on what may have happened to them. This period is historically dense and full of intrigue, battles and uprisings and Philippa Gregory does a great job bringing a sense of story to all of the facts, without losing historical accuracy or legitimacy. It was not a quick read but was an enjoyable one, well worth the effort of time. I understand this is the first book in new series so I expect the next book will be focused on Henry Tudor (ultimately King Henry VII, father of Henry VIII).

This is the second book in the Bride Quartet. This one focuses on Emmaline, the florist in the Vows wedding business. Emmaline is a complete romantic looking for the "one" who will sweep her off her feet and dance with her in the moonlight. She has always had a "thing" for the girls' mutual friend Jack and the sparks turn to an actual romance in this book. The problem is that Jack doesn't believe in fairy tale romances or happily ever after. Although I thought this book was a little short on plot, it delivers everything you look for in a Nora Roberts book. A solid installment in the Bride Quartet although of the four women that make up the quartet, Emma is the least interesting, in my view.
