This book was recommended to me by our school librarian because she knew I was reading The Giver with my students this year and saw a coorelation between the two books. I think the coorelations between the two books is weak at best but that doesn't dimish that First Light is an entertaining and interesting book. I particularily enjoyed the connections made to science - global warming and miticondrial (sp?) dna. That was creative! The book is set in Iceland, a place we don't often get to read about, so that added to the interest level. Second in the Beka Cooper series this book is a commitment. I enjoyed it but it took a while to get through. I like this series because Beka Cooper, the main character, is a strong female role model.
