not quite stream of consciousness writing (but close at times), this set of poetry is unique to the Beat writers in that it describes a cross-country trek and wild times. You know that Ginsberg wrote all of these while in a car, hotel room or bar while he could devote proper attention to his craft. I was entertained all the way through and its interesting to see the value of contemporary artists shine through in the writing (most notably Dylan) - Ginsberg repeatedly refers to the voices coming from the radio to set the scene. A reader can easily get lost in the time and place he describes so vividly, sometimes so graphically. Entertaining read....less

Essential reading whether your like Mr. Gore or not. It's too important to pass up what he has to say. Personally, I thought this book was well organized. By nature of the title, this book sets to outline the fear and deception the Bush administration pushed upon America during a period of great vulnerability. Gore's perspectives on our communicative media need to be heard today, especially his psychological description of the impact of television. Despite his own plugs for outlets like CurrentTv and pushing for a free and open internet, he makes well-founded and relevant points. His insight to the wrongs of the Bush administration were eye-opening, and I think we'll see more accounts like these unfold in the coming years. Unfortunately, we'll have to look back at this time of generally poor leadership and say that we lived through it.
I've read other reviews that say that this book is nothing more than an extension of the general government bashing that took place post-Clinton Administration. Unfortunately, I don't think that these critics see the severity of the fundamental differences between Clinton and Bush regarding secrecy, deception and instilling fear in American people to gain trust. Clinton's faults were in his personal life, Bush's were in our personal life. In reality, I don't want to believe what Gore is telling us here, but Americans watched all of this happen over the past seven years and the evidence is undeniable. PBS has a great documentary out called Bush's War that deserves viewing as much as this deserves reading. ...less
