A foodie book, a little clunky, but I stuck with it because of the location: it's set in my "home city" of Washington, DC. I let my 11-yr-old daughter read it last year and she's been a vegetarian ever since. :-) ]]>
A light snack of a book, uncomplicated for a "mystery." Refreshing literary pallate cleanser for me - I picked it up because of the cat. I love cats. So does the author, and her main characters. She happily devotes many narrative passages to the behaviors and idiosyncracies of the main character's two cats: "Had I" and "But Known." :-) Cute. ]]>
This was a surprising disappointment. The intersection between poetry and mathematics doesn't need to be nearly as tedious and dull as this - the author clearly enjoyed this transferring this incessantly rambling narrative out of his head and into book form. I got a distinct sense that it was edited and cleared for publication by literary folks who mistook its density for complexity. I finally gave myself permission to toss this across the room and move on, without guilt. :-) ]]>

I scooped this one up out of a pile of excess books at a warehouse sale - it is WEIRD. But authentic. A gritty, surreal, honest tour through Julie Doucet's dreams. I wish I could commit my own dreams to ink and paper as well as she can. ]]>
