Incredibly hyped up where I live and it was given to me as a gift. It's not a book or a genre I would otherwise have been interested in. At all. But since it was given to me I thought I might as well give it a try. See what all the fuss was about.
Admittedly I'm only barely two chapters in at this point but those 57 pages I would estimate it's 10% irrelevant background stuff (I don't care what sort of bankloan the main character paid for his home with!) 30% background stuff that might be relevant, 10% actual plot and 50% stuff that reads like a textbook.
I've heard people say they couldn't put it down. I can only imagine they must have had glue on their hands then, because I'm finding it indescribably boring so far. I'm not sure I'll make it to the last page and I have no real expectations of it getting better.
The only thing about it that I really like is the character Lisbeth Salander and that's just because she's different. ]]>

I agree with every word of this. It's a good story but it's so slow moving I just ended up getting annoyed. It has taken me the better part of a year to plod through Royal Assassin, and I'm definitely going to need a long break before I can tackle Assassin's Quest. I would have liked it a lot more if she hadn't tried to incorporate every single activity of every single day. ]]>
