This title takes place on the deathbed of artist Frida Kahlo--she is halucinating/remembering her life as she is about to die. The novel is thick with Magical Realism (a little too much for my taste), but Frida sure did live an interesting life if everything is true. Ms. Braverman and I are both Tigers.

15.6--FINAL PAYMENT by Steven Havill
My favorite present that I received as a child was a banana seat Schwinn bicycle. My mom was solidly against bikes and I had begged her for years for one when suddenly one day out of the blue she had it waiting for me as I returned from school. That bike and I travelled far and wide around the neighborhood!
The story in the novel takes place around a bicycle race in New Mexico. Only problem is--a triple homicide occurs right before the race and may cause it to be cancelled. An OK mystery, can't say I'd recommend it.
As for my volunteering--I curently work three hours a week at my local library helping with shelving and such. I also donated some toys to the Salvation Army tree at my local mall as I do every year.

15.3--A CAT NAMED BRAT by Lydia Adamson
Alice Nestleton is having a slow patch; she not only is getting no auditions, but she also has not gotten a cat-sitting job in a while. That is all about to change as she gets a call from an author who needs someone to watch his cat while he writes. Only problem is--he gets killed on Alice's first day while she's there and the cat isn't. Alice then has to put on her detective hat and find out just where the cat went. I love these stories and thought the series had ended years ago. I was so glad to find as I searched my library that there are additional stories I haven't read--Thank you challenge!!!

MICHELLE OBAMA by Elizabeth Lightfoot
I thought this would be a good read and I find the first lady interesting. I would have liked the author to have interviewed her subject, but apparently she was writing the book during the campaign and Mrs. Obama was not allowing interviews. I like the fact of anyone who can come from nothing--when asked if she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth she replied-we had four silver spoons and then when my father got a job we had five--and through hard work and dedication is able to graduate from Harvard. Quite a woman.
This brings me to 865 points!
