Since I enjoyed HANDLE TiME so much, I decided to read LiNCOLN PARK's previous work. i started with this book.

The Brevity of the Selves is an exquisite tragedy about the after effects of incest. LiNCOLN PARK takes readers on an amazing journey over the shoulder of a young girl named Candace. The girl runs away from New York City to find herself in the clutches of the Washington DC corrections system -- then to the clubs of Fort Lauderdale, FL -- to the 16th Street business hub of Downtown Denver, CO -- then back to the impersonal jobs of commission-only, New York.

There are various figures of authority Candace encounters who are supremely flawed; like Jarvis in DC or her boss at Contempo Realty in New York. Park has a wicked way of exploiting character flaws in all of her books. She also seems to have a way of moving your emotions towards the story -- without your realization of that movement. She is truly a prolific writer.

The title is apt -- as the soul of the main character is born, is developed and begins to die as events progress.

In all the weight of the plot, humor and sarcasm manage to seep into the story. This is something that I believe readers of LiNCOLN PARK novels have come to expect.

I recommend The Brevity of the Selves for any serious reader who needs to be moved by an unlikely literary source. I know I was...

While fidgeting in a dentist's waiting room, I was handed this book and simply told to read it. I can't remember the last time a book made me laugh so uncontrollably! what a fresh, new style of writing! After reading HANDLE TiME; I can assure you that I would rather have my teeth pulled than work in a call center! This book is a simple and FANTASTIC read... especially in these troubled economic times. If you hate your job, you will love this book!

I hope LiNCOLN PARK will grace us another raucous, literary absurdity like HANDLE TiME. I have a feeling that it won't be long until someone in Hollywood will want to turn this book into a feature film. If I were a movie producer, I certainly would!
