This begins right where the last book ended. We follow him through the ordeal of survival and his decision that he must do something to warn the vampires of an impending attack.

We learn a bit more about some of the other characters and about the vampire philosophy as we move through one scene after another, many of which are action-packed.

I only have one complaint. There is a mistake that some authors make while writing in first person. We are told what some of the other characters are thinking. If Darren could read minds, that would be okay. An exciting follow-up to Vampire Mountain. In the last book, we learned that Darren was going to have to complete The Trials of Initiation. These are usually reserved for vampires that want to become Generals, but the Princes have decided that Darren must go through them to prove himself.
