Oy! What a trial this heroine endures! I enjoyed this one quite a lot, easily picturing the desperate scrabble of Mary Ingles' journey to return to her husband after being kidnapped by Indians as I read page after page.
This being my first experience with Thom's work, I will definitely seek out more of his titles. I was assured that I'd love it, but not warned how nail-biting it could be at times. Not a book to read 10 pages at a time! ]]>
Wow. After being diagnosed with advanced chronic Lyme almost a decade ago, I thought I'd learned a lot about it. Wrong!
Weintraub deftly sifts through the hype/hysteria on both sides to present the factual data on nearly all aspects of the horror that is chronic Lyme, all the while interjecting it with personal tales of the challanges her own (and entire) family faced in trying to get well.
There is an extensive "notes and references" in the back of this book that in itself make it worth the purchase price. My copy came from our library, but I'll be buying a copy of my own! ]]>

This would make a great made-for-TV movie! I liked the setting, the main characters and the magical elements, but it lacked the great depth of Briggs' later works. By no means am I implying that it shouldn't be on a Briggs fan's reading list (as I am), but I wouldn't recommend it as a first choice for her work. ]]>
By far the best book I've read in a long time! It was well over 500 pages and I was still depressed because it was over.
With unexpected elements, wonderful character development and, of course, a large chunk of it about dogs, this book was written for my reading pleasure. The bonus of farm living as the central location was almost too much for my thrumming reader's mind.
"Edgar Sawtelle" has a place of honor in my top five books of all time, and I look forward to anything else written by Dave Wroblewski. If you like dogs, getting into the mind of a teenaged boy, farm life, good vs evil, or just want a wonderfully written tale this book is for you!

Had to read this because it's Rowling. I think 5-8 year olds would like it best. Very easy read, very short book... but it's Rowling. :) ]]>
