Robert B. Parker is one of my all time favorite authors. His Spenser and Jesse Stone novels are always a sure bet. RESOLUTION, however, didn't really impress me. I didn't like the hardcore gunslinger main characters of Cole and Hitch. Sure, they had their values of right and wrong and, within the context of the western frontier, they were no doubt the kind of men a person would need to keep order. Still, the way they killed as easily as they took a drink, well, it was unsettling that these were supposed to be the protagonists.
It's probably my least favorite Parker book so far....less

I probably would've liked this book a lot better if I hadn't started out being so perturbed by the whole premise. The idea is Nameless is hired by an insurance company to investigate a woman because she doesn't want the $50,000 insurance claim for her husband. That didn't seem real and put me off because what insurance company is going to do that?
He continues to investigate despite the woman's protests and pleas. She's obviously afraid, and because of his investigation a whole chain of very negative things happen. In the end, he and Kerry take the orphaned Emily. I figure after what happened after his interference, it's the least he can do.
So, even though I liked how twisty and well-written the book was, I was still too aggravated by the plot to give it a four....less

I like Pronzini's easy, old-fashioned style of writing. It reminds me of the hardboiled detective writers of the 50s and 60s, but it's set in present time. It's amazing to me that he's written so many books and his detective is still "Nameless".
In this book, Nameless nearly gets killed during a blackmail case that goes horribly wrong. It rattles him and he spends most of the book not only trying to get justice for his client, but to find his nerve again. ...less

The action was a little unbelieveable and over the top. I know it moves the action along to have a small town run by a rich bully boy, but it just didn't ring true to me. Plus, I think if I were on vacation with my two kids and I got attacked and burglared and THEN attacked again the next day, I'd be leaving, not investigating. Of course, then it'd be a very short book.
It's okay book, but not great....less
