The longest of Jane Austen's books, that i have read, at least. It was a wonderful "character analysis" book, as my mom would call it. I loved it. And if you've ever seen one of the film versions---don't believe them! This is different and sooo much better. If you like the Mitford series by Jan Karon, you'll enjoy this. But for me, it was missing something...and that "something" was Jesus Christ truly being in Miss Read's life. There's so much more she could have been, all for the better. Instead she was pretty hum-drum. An ideal "coming of age" story with wonderful lessons to be learnt. Written in the autobiographical manner, it's very engaging.
