As for the Kindle, my in-laws gave it to me as a b-day gift. I wouldn't have purchased it for myself, because I thought I would HATE it. I'm a book person - I love the feel of them, the smell, the look, writing notes in them, etc. I was also afraid of eye strain because I spend so much time on the computer. But I have definitely seen the merits of the Kindle now. I have no idea how they did the screen but I wish all computers had a function to make it as readable as the Kindle screen. It is not bright at all, just very clear and almost as soothing as a real page. The best part is the portability. It is so light and slim. It will be my go-to travel companion from here on out. And you can automatically download books anywhere you have wireless, which is a huge plus. The books are generally less expensive than paperbacks, way less expensive than hardbacks. I have only come across a few titles that weren't available (although I haven't searched for many, so that may be a flawed sample).

Speaking of the screen, mine broke last night - it just crapped out. It seems very sturdy but I think Cate has (mis)handled it a few too many times. I called Amazon today and they are shipping me a new one to arrive tomorrow, so I'm very happy about that! I'm going to be more careful keeping it out of her reach.

Bottom line, I'm definitely not giving up real books, because the experience just can't be replicated, but I'm definitely glad I have the kindle.
