It was hard not to compare this book to The Hunger Games, which I recently read,and while this one is not packed with the same sort of action, it is a similar plot in which a teenager who thinks they have little to offer finds out they have many admirable qualities. There is a lot of reference to mythological gods and stories, so some prior info re them is helpful but not mandatory.

Hassam is a brilliant artist, and this book (along with the other two I read) highlights his genius. The color plates are abundant, the text clear, and the musings interesting. I lost myself for hours pouring over the images, studying the brushwork and color masses and globs of paint.
