This book is fun and interesting to read. McDougall writes a bit like Bill Bryson, but not as well. His trivia and description of unique people get tedious and I started skimming. He handles some interesting topics though, for sure: the running shoe industry and its impact on the health and speed of runners; evolution of homo erectus; the Leadville 100 race; nutrition; and the glories of long distance running. I am very glad I read this book. I'm inspired -- I just came in from a fun (but short) "run."

I am greatly appreciating this book! It might not be as interesting to those who didn't live here when it happened, but it is captivating for me. The author dispells a lot of the myth about the happening, Harris & Klebold. Also, it summarized how unethical our elected officials can be!

The most dangerous job, per the book, is to work in a slaughterhouse. The lines go fast and the knives are whistling and the equipment is big and dangerous. What is even more dangerous then slaughtering is to work on cleaning up the mess. Workers use hot steaming water and visibility gets terrible and machines & chemicals are very scary.
