I chose to read the stories about Hemingway and Twain, and after that I couldn't read anymore. I wasn't surprised with what I read, and I was discouraged that I hadn't learned anything new. Furthermore, it was also a peculiar downer because it was predictable. I wasn't sure whether it was a signal about waning of Oates' prodigious powers or not. I like Al Franken...occasionally. I think he's a fair-to-middling comedian, but if he can be a good-to-brilliant senator from Minnesota, fine. His kind of humor was okay in the early Eighties, and is better coming from the lips of other people. Jon Stewart, Keith Olbermann--they're more my speed. I was bored with him when he had his show on Air America. His assessment of all the Reichwing liars on Faux Noise, however, is dead on, even at this late stage. He justly deserves the honor of helping to marshal the troops, starting with Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.
