This is another 5, maybe even 4.5. I love Ilona's universe. It is one of the few dark future universe that I like (hate post apocalyptic books), I need to do a detailed write up about her universe, which I'll post a link here. Her universe is rich enough that I want to do that.

But this book.
1) It was written as if it could stand alone, which meant there was tons and tons of backstory given about the other books.
2) nothing really happens until the last 1/4 of the book. I would give that part and the ending a six, which is why this gets a five.
3) the opening was blah. I understand what was going on. The theme of this book is having to hide who/what you are and the opening fits this, but if I reread this, I'll skip it.
4) I want Kate and Curran together, but the change in Kate felt rushed.
5) All the hints about who Kate really is got tiresome. It was easy to figure this out from the other books.
6) this book felt like a transition book that was setting up the next.I'm looking forward to that one

What I loved:
1) the ending was great
2) Curran, Curran and more Curran. Everything he did, everything he said, the twists, his interaction with Kate. EVERYTHING I loved!!!!
3) The fights are well written. That's when the book gets good.
4) How the fights ends is OMG incredible.
5) The interaction of Kate with the secondary characters.
6) The seamless way Ilona integrates the universe with the plot
