is on page 350 of 1015 of Kushiel's Dart: Remember, "show, don't tell". So far the main character, though surrounded by political intrigue, takes little part in it herself (save for the occasional sex scene) and mostly hears updates from others. Every time the story jumps forward in time, we're treated to 3 pages of "King So-and-so rode out to someplace and continued his campaign. Meanwhile, his son did such-and-such, accompanied by so-and-so." And so on.
