I remember reading this one when I was 13 and having it really creep me out. Flash forward to preset day... I recently watched a movie about machines taking over humanity and was reminded of this book. So I re-read it...

And found it to be a good bit of nostolgia. Yes, it was still good (I'm almost embarassed to admit I really sort of enjoyed it). This time around, though, I picked up on a few things that caused me to raise an eyebrow and say "yeah, right". Come now, no parent, not even an adopted parent, is going to let their teenage daughter skip school and drive to Vegas so she can illegally gamble. Yes, the plot was predictable. But all the same, there were still some very disturbing elements that did not diminish in creepiness over time (for example, the nightmare sequences).

Part romance, part sci-fi, part humor, part something else entirely, Bellwether is one of those books that defies classification...and accurate description. A study of inter-relationships between seemingly unrelated variables. A look at the accidental chaos (and orderliness?) of life, the universe, everything. The answer is NOT, as Adams once assumed, 42. Rather, the answer is the Bellwether.

To say more about this thought-provoking novel would be giving away too much away.

Anyone even remotely familiar with Erin Hunter's "Warriors" series knows of Bluestar, the great cat who preceeded Firestar in leading ThunderClan. But most probably don't know of the struggles she went through, the losses she endured, and the decisions she had to make on while on her rise to power. Also hints at why Tigerclaw became so vicious and how ThunderClan cats earned the reputation as kitty pet sympathizers even before Firetar became a 'paw'.

"Bluestar's Prophecy" reads almost like a biography of this great feline leader, detailing her life from birth to taking over leadership of her Clan. Has everything: Drama, suspense, romance, secrets, lies, intrigue, a few shock moments...and, of course, the legendary battle scenes Warriors fans have come to expect. Can stand alone or act as a prequel to the "Into the Wild."

A great book, as I have come to expect from the writers of this series. ]]>
