I really do not know where to begin. This book, BY FAR, managed to affect me the most out of any book I have ever read in my entire life. Yes, I said my ENTIRE life.
The story takes place in the late 1700's on a sugar cane plantation in Jamaica. Lilith is a young mulatto woman born on the Montpeliar plantation. The story follows her life as she learns her place in society all the while learning about who she is and what she can do.
Many pages were graphic and brought me to complete tears. There were lines that literally exhausted me and forcedme to put the book down. It IS a difficult read as it is written in patwa with old slave language.
I don't care if you are Black, White, Puerto Rican or Asian.... you WILL lose yourself in this book. Marlon James did a FABULOUS job!
