An internet group that I belong to picked this book to read and discuss. At first this book was a pageturner. In the middle the pace of the story slowed way down. I was ready for the author to wrap the story up about 30 pages before she did. The memoir was true-to-life. Part of the story depressed me, so that might explain why I was racing to be done with this book. I was in the mood for a romance, so this is the book that came off my "to-be-read" pile. This story followed the typical romance novel plot outline. I did find the main, male character was caring and gentle. The title of this book really has a meaning. A pre-teen friend recommended this book to me and loaned me her "advanced readers copy." I really enjoyed this twelve year olds perspective on life. I cheered for lucy as she worked to save the earth and her family's business. This book allowed me a glimpse into how sake is made and what was exspected of a brewers' family. This book reflected on how important "family loyality" is. Sometimes I feel Americans should go back to being truely loyal to their families. I enjoyed the setting of Japan. The author has a smooth style of writing.
