An enjoyable read on the evolution of "gourmet" food in the U.S.. I picked this up from the used bookstore, needing something to read for the commute home - I really enjoyed it. Some of the negative reviews were about how the authors have "issues" - but that's really part of the point. Cooking for one or dining alone often brings out our own weird predilections, some of which aren't entirely healthy but completely human.

Definitely recommended for when you're eating by yourself in a restaurant - I read a large chunk while doing just that. Finally finished - the problem with these paper-based courses is that they allow you to slack off and do it at your own pace. I think if I actually focused on the course, I would have been able to complete it much more quickly.

Anyway, I think I'd give a good review to this, as a textbook, although anything that strays to anything remotely technological is completely dated.
