I read the thread on here ADVICE - QUESTION FOR YA! > Swearing in poetry and wonder what people would see as profane. Here is the poem I mentioned in my comment, do you see it as profane?
Memories Of The Night
Your voice deep and beautiful to my ears
caressing me with your words
touching me with your words
you unravel me with your eyes
deep limpid pools of dark brown
I want to swim in your eyes
drown in your eyes
driving me, confounding me with your sighs
obliterating my senses with your sighs
movement, slow at first
faster with each touch of your lips
my pulse points scream for you
stroking my ankles
kissing my wrists
ecstasy is what I see in you
mixing the elixir of love
desire, to reach for your sky
I hear you
I see you
as I have not heard or seen anything
as I have not heard or seen anyone
in so long
you are Cool Blue
you are my Dark Knight
I revel in your moans
enraptured
an explosion of pure delight
you render me languid
warm and spent
you nuzzle my hair and say
Je t'aime
tears of joy
you are the wine of life
my most humble wish
you are what I want

Swearing in Poetry
Can I say what I wish to say
will you hear my voice
if I use words called swears?
will you hear my voice if I don't
subjectivity
beauty is in the eye of...
poetry, the use of words
to convey meaning
to convey an emotion
love, hate, fear, desire
all words to convey emotion
if I say I wish to f*ck and mean desire
will you turn away?
or will you see the intensity?
Just a couple of thoughts on the topic above. I think and I feel it depends on the situation meaning the poem and the usage of the words. If it is one long onslaught of profanity maybe there is a reason for that. Not that it would be my taste to read such a poem, but I can see where it might be (I am tired, please bear with me) acceptable given what the writer is trying to convey. Profanity for the sake of profanity, I would have to disagree with that. I can't think of one poem I have written that has actual profanity in it (except for the above and that was for "illustrative" reasons), but I have alluded to things in a few. I think the furthest out I have gone was in "Memories of the Night" which was written about a specific situation with a specific person for this specific person. I will add it to the "I APPRECIATE POETRY CRITIQUE" section if anyone is interested. Tell me what you think (not trying to hawk my writing here, just curious about what people see as profane). ]]>
I was drawn to your title. I know someone who is so cryptic. I am glad I was drawn. My critical skills are not the best, but here goes. Your poem spoke to me. Ahhhh, my brain is just to tired, sorry. I will try to remember to come back. I did love your poem though. I am just lacking right now. ]]>
