I am with you. They are VERY religious and I did not expect that to be such a big theme in the book, it makes sense though since Kate has a very obsessive-compulsive nature about her. I enjoyed the book as well.

OH HOLY HELL I WEPT LIKE A CRAZY PERSON. Yes, yes, I've heard the complaints about how boring the whole "let's move from place to place with my magical bag and this tent" section is, but I kind of liked it. I liked all the waiting, the tedium of it. I liked that it didn't follow the formula of the other six books, where they go to school and live out the school year. LOVED that they made Voldemort's name a tracing spell--brilliant!

Oh also, NEENER NEENER NEENER, I KNEW Snape didn't betray Dumbledore. IN YOUR FACE, SKEPTICS!

I don't think I've wept as much while reading (except possibly at the endings of East of Eden and A Prayer for Owen Meaney)--I mean, even fucking DOBBY made me cry. DOBBY. And Kreacher, man, that little bastard won my heart over. But for serious, I was weeping so much from "The Prince's Tale" all the way through "King's Cross." Oh my crap. I am a sucker for anytime a person willingly walks to his or her death--maybe it's the Catholic in me. And, "I open at the close," OH MY HELL seriously the weeping.

And ALSO? What I absolutely thought was brilliant was that Snape's worst memory, which we've known about for some time, was not his worst memory because he was humiliated in front of Lily. It was his worst memory because the humiliation led him to lash out at Lily and call her a Mudblood, which was the end of their friendship. The humiliation wasn't what made it his worst memory--it was his weakness that made him lose even friendship with the woman he would love for the rest of his life.

My main problems with the book are similar to many others': I felt the epilogue was just so poorly written and too pat. I also feel quite robbed of not getting to grieve with the families over the deaths in the final battle. I'd like to know how the Weasleys deal, how they heal (OMFG I still can't get over the fact that Fred is gone. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!), how Hogwarts rebuilds.

The final battle with Voldy was a bit too Dirty Harry for my taste ("Are you feeling lucky, punk?"), but I do love that he won with "expelliarmus." That kind of seriously rocks.

Also: NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM IS ONE BADASS MOTHERFUCKER. (less)
