I should have figured it by the time I had finshed reading Midnight's Children, but I actually don't like the way Rushdie writes. He uses more of a stream on consiousness, and I generally prefer a narrative because I sometimes find his style hard to follow. I'm not sure I'll finish this bok, but I'll give it a go.
<br/>Update: Boy was I wrong. I enjoyed this much more than midnight's children, although I will admit I probably did not take the moral of the story as I ought to have. It was also interesting to hear some thoughts and stories from the inside of a skewed muslim perspective (which I am sure any good muslim would be horrified to hear me say). I do suggest this book!

I have really enjoyed reading these stories. MeiLin's writing reminds me a lot of Jacquline Carey, who I adore. I like the depth of the characters, although I do think that Temmin needs a bit more backbone and character. I imagine that he will grow into that a little as we follow his life though. I love the religious structure, and I am looking forward to learning more about some of the other temples, rather than mostly the lover's temple (as juicey as that always is!). When all is said and done I enjoy this enough that I troll MeiLin's website for updates even when none are scheduled in the hopes that I might get lucky.

I really enjoyed this book. I have a taste for kinky smut, but thankfully Jacqueline Carey can deliver that along with a great story! To be honest I did prefer the first 3 books in this series more than these last 3 though. I fell in love with Phedre, and Joscelin is quite simply the most romantic figure I have read about in forever. These books always have me trying to stifle my sqees of delight so I don't wake Joe up at night!

I really enjoyed reading this book, with one exception. I walked away from this with very mixed feelings. *SPOILER ALERT-DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU WANT TO BE SURPRISED BY THE STORY* I understand that Cal felt that he (or she at the time time), had to avoid being trapped in a woman's body forever by well-meaning parents, and that that was why he ran away from his family and the doctor, but I don't understand why he felt that he had to live life as a man. He says himself that he was comfortable in the role of a female, and that even now as a man that he sometimes finds himself uncomfortable in the male gender role. He made it sound as if he passed well enough as a female that he likely wouldn't have had to have any kind of surgery, just maybe some hormone therapy. I guess I was just kind of dissapointed that despite the fact that he was a genetic male who was raised as a female that when he discovered he was male he felt the need to live life in that role, even though he was less comfortable in it.

This is one of Joe's books which I picked up while it was lying around the house. I shouldn't like it, it's practically a text book, but I find it a very interesting read! Not something that I can sit down and spend the afternoon with though.

I really enjoyed the first part of this book, but as it wore on it kind of depressed me. I really like a book with a strong hero figure, and this most certainly did not have one.
