DeMille isn't really there in this book -- he takes his gifts (which are suspense, military/detective gun-related tension, intrigue) and slathers a Shamrock all over it in Irish-American thickness ... which amounts to just about nil.

The other major mistake he makes (mind you, I didn't finish the book, so I don't know how it turns out) is that a vehicle for tension is the threat to bomb the Cathedral -- which, last I heard, has never happened ... so it would be safe as a reader to assume they don't pull it off in this book ... thus diluting the tension and turning the dance between author and reader into a Guinness-addled dance with a heavy-footed Irishman.
