I enjoyed this book, in a way more than I did the previous one. Lisbeth Sander makes for a very interesting detective and heroine. This book is more about her character than the last and it draws strength from that. I enjoyed it both as a potboiler and a character study.

This is a very well written account of how the diary of Anne Frank came about. It is interesting that Anne put so much work into this, and this was never really acknowledged, that there were three versions of the diary, and that the one we have is the one she hoped would gain her literary fame. I also love that this book puts down the horrible movie, television, and theatrical versions of the book. Even as a child, I hated the movie, Millie Perkins never played the Anne Frank of the book. I have read this diary at many times in my life and have taught using it, I keep seeing new things in it. Prose's book shows us that there is even more to it. I can't recommend this enough.

I found this book, not just to be funny but something I really related too. I too lived in a foriegn country,Korea, and could identify with everything from learning a new language to culture. Of how lonely living overeas really is. I enjoyed the rest to from the Portraits of an artist to the IQ tests and the running of the bulls. This is a great book and I can't wait to read more by the same author.

I have to admit that I listened to this more than read it. But it is still a lively collection of essays. It even got me to read Desperate Characters which I really enjoyed.
