On my second read through of this book, not only was it confirmed that it was my least favorite of the entire series, but now that I am not anxious to find out what happens next I realize how atrocious the writing it.
Example: I closed my eyes so I couldn't see the darkness...
What the hell is that? You close your eyes it gets dark. Closing your eyes against darkness is the most rediculous thing that a person could do. Its already dark, why bother closing your eyes. If you are scared of the dark, closing your eyes seems pointless.
Her book is full of these gems. Also, I really hate the way that she has her character interrupt her sentances to explain what she means ALL THE TIME. There isn't a single page in the whole book that doesn't have - somewhere on it. And she is explaining moot things. Things that the children reading it could figure out without her annoying interruptions to her sentances. Like the fact that she was so happy she could die (or something to that effect) and she interjects the middle of the sentance with - figuratively of course. It made the whole stream of the book disjointed and choppy. How could I not realize how annoying that is the first time I read this book.
Anyway, I still enjoy the story despite the terrible execution of it. At least there are morals and no swearing in the books. That actually is what endures me to this series. ]]>

This book was a real time warp for me. I thought it was really interesting. The only weird thing is that the main character Dan doesn't really have a personality. The entire book is lived through his point of view and you don't really get a feel for him, because Dan doesn't have a feel for himself and vicariously lives through all the people who are around him. The other characters in the book are fantastic.
This book also reminded me a lot of my grade 11 year when I went all geeky and almost became a computer geek myself and then realized that I was more creative than logical. ]]>
