I agree entirely with what she is TRYING to say, and I liked the way the books was written more like a series of essays than anything else.
I am all for eating safe, whole foods, but she errs waaay too far on the lenient side for me. The wine drinking during pregnancy and breast feeding was what really got to me. It. Is. Never. Safe. Even caffeine isn't proven to be safe in low doses during pregnancy, just "probably" safe. I don't understand risking your child's health based on inconclusive information. It's just as easy to not drink, as a matter of fact, easier!
That being said, I kept reading it, despite wanting to toss it across the room because of that, as there were good points.
The section on the importance of breastfeeding was great, and I'm glad she spent that much time pointing out the flaws in even modern baby formula.
But the constant, adamant view that a baby can't be healthy without meat is just ridiculous, especially when paired with the crap she was letting her kid eat. I liked her view on letting baby decide what it liked and disliked, but a chicken bone? "Coffee-spiked milk"? And despite babies "naturally putting big chunks in the front of their mouth", is it really worth the choking risk?
I don't understand someone willingly putting their child at risk, even a small risk, when it's just as easy to avoid it. It's just selfish or lazy. ]]>

They ENCOURAGED weight gain, (gave the exact same weight gain figures every other pregnancy book does) and had a whole section yelling at the readers that may have thought this book was to help them lose weight or stay skinny while pregnant.
And they also gave all of the reasons why dairy is incredibly dangerous for you and your baby. ]]>

Sorry, I wasn't very clear.
I didn't mean so much Chance's habits/the way she viewed the world, as those are vastly different. It's more in the energy of the character, how she looks at the camera and gives that frustrated, loud monologue in the movie, is kind of how Calliope felt in the narrative, lol. That same strong willed sort of character? I'm still not sure I'm describing it right. Oh well. ]]>
