In the last three months, I've been home a lot and I've watched a lot of television. During this time, I have become obsessed with "No Reservations" on the Travel Channel.
This book is a compilation/summary of the photos and experiences of Anthony Bourdain and the "No Reservations" crew as they travel around the world filming this show. Most of the book sums up the highs and lows of many of the places they've been. That part is OK, but I liked the last 30 or so pages the best, where Bourdain discusses the best restaurants in the world, the injuries he and the crew members have received, and the best (and worst) bathrooms the world has to offer.
The book was fun, but the show is fabulous. Watch it whenever you can! ...less

This book was an enjoyable, light-hearted look at the sea of self-help books, speakers, events, etc. that Beth Lisick sorted through during the course of a year. I really liked Lisick's writing style, and I especially loved the section about hanging out with Richard Simmons on the "Cruise to Lose."
If you don't mind some salty language here and there and you're looking for a quick read with a few laughs along the way, read this book. ...less

I guess that Mr. Shepard is a good writer--I just didn't get into most of these stories. I think that one of the problems is that they were very man-centric--stories about sons trying to please their fathers or brothers or coaches or whatnot. I did like the story about the female cosmonaut, but that was about it. ...less

So I checked this book out and wanted to read it because it reminded me of my many librarian friends, but then I had a baby and the book was overdue and I never finished it.
I'll say this: The book is a fictionalized account of a real program in Africa. I think I would have preferred reading the true stories. ...less
