A simple story - a girl gets lost in the woods - and yet Stephen King played her story out over 213 pages. I lived the discomfort, the fear, and the pain with her.
A very likeable main character, and I enjoyed reading how her wanderings through the woods made her think about her life and her parents.
A very poignant ending.
Definitely a keeper.

My favourites are: Strange Highways, Trapped, and Twilight of the Dawn.
There's all sorts in here and a great read.
I liked the Notes to the Reader section at the end. In it, Koontz talks about his love of writing, why he writes and his advice to writers
"Have fun, entertain yourself with your work, make yourself laugh and cry with your own stories, make yourself shiver in suspense along with your characters. If you can do that, then you will most likely find a large audience; but even if a large audience is never found, you'll have a happy life. I don't measure success by the number of copies sold but by the delight that I get from the process and the finished work."

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I've enjoyed other books in the Arcane Society series.
What shocked me the most was how fast the two main characters crossed the line from professional relationship to romantic liaison. After that I found it hard to get back into the book and find credibility in the characters.
It ended on a happy note, which is always good, and there is something interesting going on in the background with Fallon Jones, so hopefully he'll feature as the lead man in a book of his own!
