After being disappointed by Abercrombie's ending to his First Law trilogy I was wary to read another book by him. But I gave it a shot and I was not pleased. The main character was very flat and it was way too long. This story seemed to drag on and it was very boring. ]]>

I've been waiting for a new Valdemar book for a long time, so I was very excited to hear about this one. But I think my anticipation and love for this series made me love the book more. I didn't like the ending, I didn't feel like it was wrapped up well enough, but I can't wait for the next one. ]]>

the dry humor and wit of the main character, Alfeo, really made this book worth reading. I enjoyed the historical perspectives and I have a love for Venice in general. ]]>
