I'm working on this one. Minette Walters books can be confusing and difficult to keep straight. People keep popping up who have not been mentioned before and I'm having difficulty keeping up. BUT still trudging through.

this was a book that I never could decide if I liked or not - it was told almost entirely in the first person by a very old woman, whose sister returns to her and the family home after a 47 year absence. The book flashes backwards and then to present time and explains the odd relationships that each sister has with family members and with each other - each sister has a viewpoint 180 degrees from the other when remembering significant family interactions and occurrences - and part way through the book the reader begins to understand why. There was a point about 5/6ths through the novel that made my hair raise, and then, unfortunately and in my ever-so humble opinion, the end fell a bit flat. The book is one, however, that I remember (sometimes i quickly forget reading a book entirely if it fails to excite me) and am glad that I read.

Well - I made it though this book by sheer endurance. the book wasn't too long, thank heavens. this is the first of the Temperance Brennan series - she's a forensic/medical examiner and apparently is given many of the really yucky cases. Way too much for me - murders were grisly and over explained - geez, just don't need to know all of horrific details - I guess it adds to the story for some, just made me a bit queazy. So, unless I somehow find that this book is over the top as far as Brennan mysteries, it will be my very last. For those of you who love really gory, scary murder mysteries, go for it.

This book is another of the Detective Kincaid series - they tend to all be a little bit the same, but some more likable that others - but I do like almost all of them. this one was one of the better ones - the reader had to stretch a bit to believe the psychic parts of this book. A few too many people had special powers to drag the past into the present, but overall an excellent read - one that kept my interest throughout.
