It is my opinion that The Host is one of Stephenie Meyer's finest works. I found it to be much more original and creative than her better known Twilight series. The Host is a fresh, modern sci-fi story told through the perspective of one of Earth's invading, parasitic aliens.

The story takes quite a few twists and turns and is far from predictable. For those numerous Twi-hards out there - there are indeed some elements from the Twilight series that carry over into this book as well; there is an extremely unique love triangle, a relatable and likeable heroine, a vengeful female villain stalking her prey from afar. Although these devices have all been used before even by this author, she presents them here in a unique and interesting way.
