Okay, so this was the book I chose to have as my "reading for fun!" book during this semester. YES, OBVIOUSLY A BAD DECISION. We all know how well I deal with tragically sad and upsetting things! This book was pretty wonderful though. Not only has Beah survived hell, but I believe he is a talented writer. Tahnie, I had a HUGE problem with the miscarriages part, too. Like...it was just too many, you know? I was like Okay, we get it. I really wanted to like it too, but I felt like I didn't actually feel this big romance I know it was supposed to be. Mainly I just felt like a lot of it was too upsetting, and I felt like Clare's character was diminished by the fact that she was pretty much defined by always waiting for him.

Had to re-read this for a Literary Theory class this summer. Man, okay, I know it's a huge classic, and I remember liking it the first time I read it in high school, and I know it's full of meaning/lessons about humanity etc., but this time I just found it so disturbing and couldn't get over the fact that I hated like, all of the characters. Or rather, couldn't feel empathy for any of them.
