I don't usually start writing a review until I'm finished with a book. I'm going to make an exception. I mainly wait to pass judgment at the end, because I have often found, a book that started out bad or okay, sometimes redeems itself in the middle stretching to the end.
I was excited to start reading this series, so I went and bought each book. I wish now, I would have waited until reading the first book...geesh. Anyway, for right now, I'm not terrible excited about Marked. I feel as if the language and sarcasm is forced. I'm not a spring chicken anymore, but I still get the language today. I just felt as if, it was over done and too much.
I'm not one to abandon a book, so I will finish it and I hope that things improve. I love the Vampire Academy series and Twilight series way more so far. We'll see how it goes.
Happily, Marked did improve once Zoey made it to House of Night. I started to really enjoy it. However, the writing at times was still forced and boarding on ridiculous. I liked the story and characters enough to be excited to finish the series. Hopefully, Betrayed is better and maybe the authors worked out some of the kinks. ]]>

I'm a little frustrated with this series. It has the potential to be good, but it continually falls short. The main reason is the writing. It's horrible!
I even added a whole new shelf dedicated to the "worst-reads-ever." Like I said in my review of Marked, "the authors are trying too hard to be hip" and it's not being pulled off very well. Plus, a thesaurus can work miracles to spruce up any writing.
I gave this book two stars, because the story started to get more interesting. However, I'm not connecting to the characters and this is a big deal to me. Even if the writing is bad in a book, as long as, I connect to the characters and the story then, I can look past the painful narration. I'm finding it hard to turn a blind eye to the writing abilities of these authors.
Just because there is a large audience out there for vampire novels, doesn't mean that every story should be published. Having a good idea does not equal good writing.
So, why did I read the second book after hating the first book? Well, I have a bad habit of buying the whole series, even though I haven't read the first book. In addition, I like to torture myself repeatedly. I may be ridiculous in all my reasoning here, but I like to give things a try and I just can't stand the fact that I already started this series and I have to know where this story and characters are going to lead me... crazy I know. ]]>
