Chick-Lit + Zombies = Awesome!!

This book was delightful. Having already read and liked Austen's zombie-free original I had high hopes for this book. It certainly lived up to the hype in my mind. A fun, quick little read I'm am sure to recommend to all my friends.

I had absolutely no expectations when A Year of Cats and Dogs arrived on my doorstep, I'm not sure whether that was a good thing or not.
I'll readily admit that as I chugged through the first few chapters I found myself disliking Maryanne. I found her sad-sack personality a bit off-putting - though that's one of my own character flaws, as I feel this way whether the person in question be on the page or moping before me. I was starting to get worried that this book would forever be a glimpse into the uneventful life of a deflated balloon of a woman, when it turned into something more. Maryanne seemed to develop more facets that I had come to expect and the story moved along nicely.


I'd have to agree that this is the anti midlife-crisis story of a woman who seems to be in the middle of a very difficult year. An interesting end for the Twilight series. This story was definitely of a different ilk (in my opinion)but it was good overall.
I don't usually go in for the whole happily-ever-after spiel, but i enjoyed it here.

How sad was this book? Absolutely and beautifully heartbreaking. It was so incredibly dolorous I had taken to reading it when I knew I would be alone, so as not to draw attention to myself as I teared up.
Stephenie Meyers can tell a tale, that's undeniable.

There were spots that I thought the narration wasn't as good as it could have been, but it didn't take away anything from the story. I literally couldn't put it down for any extended period of time, and as such I finished it in a day.


On to book 3, which I have high hopes for.

I was prepared to loathe this book. I had waited to read it until the hype died down and the frenzy was over. Then I'd unleash my wrath on all my twilight-loving friends. That was the plan, and even the best-laid plans fail.

Not only did I not hate it.... I really, really liked it. For me, it stirred not only the feeling of first love, but also those of "real" love, the kind that endures (the kind I have, lucky me). I can definitely see how this book would appeal to the teen set, but I think it's just as relatable to the post-high school crowd.

I was sucked in from the preface and read it in about two days. And though it's no Dostoyevsky, or anything that would normally be considered 'heavy literature', it was just what I was in the mood for (though I didn't know it).
