There's a Seal in my Sleeping Bag (Outdoors & Nature)

Description: This book has been in print for over 40 years so somebody must like it. It is my first and signature book, the story of being engaged on my first date to a graduate student biologist at the University of British Columbia, a date to count eagles, a wedding within weeks in Western Australia, a seal on my honeymoon, and a life spent with wildlife and wilderness. It is my fascination for the landscapes of Canada and their inhabitants, and my evangelism for their conservation. I do this through graphic personal experience, a keen sense of humour (especially laughing at myself), a positive attitude and a desire to educate as well as entertain: whether I am sitting for nine hours in an eagle's nest, pulling swimming eagles from the sea, babysitting orcas (killer whales), incubating murre and puffin eggs under my sweater on the edge of a cliff, rowing a dinghy through the surf, climbing a 150-foot tree, rescuing sea otters, or bringing eagles, seals, cougars, bears, even apes, to my elementary school classrooms. This book brings the BC coast to life, not only its wilderness and wildlife but also its people, fishermen, hunters, pioneers, lighthouse keepers, hermits, all of them characters. I write adult books in a conversational tone which children read. Kids enjoy my wild life with orphaned animals indoors but older people enjoy my portraits of the coast not only in BC but off the California, Oregon and Washington coast as well.
