Everybody said this book was so sad...that I was a little surprised by the fact that I never even had a tear over it. Nonetheless, it was beautifully written and full of prose - my favorite type of fiction.

Wow this was so beautifully written. Yeah...not much else to say about it. The people and events offered a very unique perspective of the WWII aftermath in Japan and Australia mostly - but interesting story aside, I just loved this writer's prose. That is all.

Well....it was OK. I was a little bit annoyed by some of the cast of the same cliche types of characters - but obviously I still read the 1000 page behemoth. Near the end, it got more interesting and kept me hooked - but it's no Duma Key or Bag of Bones - 2 of my more recent favorites.
