I loved this book--I read it in a day, practically devouring it.
The title points to the relationship between the narrator and the professor, but really it is the relationship between her son (nicknamed Root) and the professor that drives this story.
One interesting thing: Other than Root (a nickname), no one in this book is named. This was also the case in another recent read "The Fuck Up" and in that book this device helped to alienate the reader further from the unlikeable narrator.
