I had a hard time getting into this book at first. Once I got about half way in, it began to pick up. Despite the fact that this book won an Edger Nominee for Best First Novel, the author's second book, Dark Places, is much better. A few times with Sharp Objects, I wanted to say to the author "that's interesting, but can we get back to the story" - it just seem to get off track every now and then. This book also had an ugly feeling to it that I had expected with Dark Places, but never got. Sharp Objects does present an interesting look at different kinds of mental illness and child abuse.
