Andrew Wyeth is a modern American master and one of the greatest artists of all time. Anyone who is a fan of his work will enjoy reading about his little known personal life, and the intimate relationships between his family members and the models who inspired many of his most famous paintings.

I've used this book for all of my Western art history classes, and it was an excellent resource for my lectures. Easy to read, and interesting enough to pick up if you're looking for a brief but concise overview of the history of western art.

I read this in high school, but I believe it deserves more mature attention. I do remember feelings of despair and horror, which I'm certain cannot be attributed towards the typical teenage angst!

Impossible to put down! Jumpei's struggle throughout the book is terrifying and exciting. His final choice to stay in the dunes due to a "task" he becomes obsessed with is tragic and pitiful...it truly left me depressed for days. However, it can also be seen as a wise reflection on the acceptance of our situation in life, and that we shouldn't expect anything more than what is presented to us. A humbling and bizarre masterpiece.

This is my favorite book, although it rivals His Master's Voice, which I'm currently reading. The writing style is often accused of being dry and stark, which is not accurate of the beautiful and fantastical imagery Stanislaw projects into our minds. The ending of this book is especially profound. This is serious science fiction, with a frighteningly penetrating look into how little we understand about ourselves in the universe.
